Feeling Pink

Hey there!

This past week my best friend in the entire world came to visit me in LA. She's back in NYC now and I already miss the hell out of her! But I'm happy she was able to stay for as long as she did and we were able to do some really fun things and explore Los Angeles together. There's really nothing like having your best friend visit...it's like home away from home. We decided to hit up Melrose Ave to do some browsing one day and I couldn't resist taking pictures in front of Paul Smiths vibrant pink wall.

LA has been SO unbearably hot and humid lately so I decided to wear this comfortable and breezy outfit. My top is from Brandy Melville (like I've mentioned in my last post, I cannot get enough of their clothes). It's long sleeves but incredibly light...the perfect knit for summer and piece for transitioning into fall. Finished off off this monochrome look with these crochet shorts I bought a few years back at Buffalo Exchange

I hope you're all having an amazing start to your week! Thank you for stopping by!

Brick House

Hey lovelies!!!

So do you ever just have those days where you're feeling so good and you want the way you dress to reflect just how damn amazing you're feeling? This is that look for me. Just give me a body hugging pencil skirt, high heeled sandal, and a casual top and I feel like I can conquer anything. I've been experiencing a lot of changes recently and they're all for the better...they've given me a new found confidence.

I've been wearing heels a LOT lately, especially this pretty pair by GUESS? because they're sexy, comfortable, and go with just about everything! I bought them while I was in Florida at Burlington Coat Factory (only $20!!!). I love how well they go with this floral printed pencil skirt I got last year from H&M's sale rack. I wanted to keep the top simple and casual since there's so much going on with the skirt so I went with this gray t-shirt from H&M (also the sale rack). I finished off the look with a pair of blue earrings to match the skirt and some of my new favorite accessories: this vintage red Coach bag and a silver cicada ring (both of which I bought while thrifting in Florida). I love bargains! Everything in this outfit was either on the sale rack or something I picked up at a thrift store....but I feel like a million bucks when I'm wearing it.

Thanks for checking in!

Happy Birthday Lin

Hey there!

I hope you're all having a beautiful weekend so far! Friday my best friend, Lin, came into town for her birthday and I couldn't have been happier to see her!! For our day out, I decided to wear this strapless dress I bought at Urban Outfitters a few years ago. It's waaaay too short so I threw on this vintage high-waisted skirt. I love the crochet detail of the dress and how it plays off the pattern of the skirt. I topped the look off with this mint green statement necklace, floral t-strap wedges, and my vintage Coach bag I bought at a thrift store in Tampa, FL.

We started Friday off by taking her to get a tattoo! She's been wanting the Soot Sprite from Miyazaki's Spirited Away and it turned out amaaaaazing. Then we headed to our favorite Thai restaurant, ate our "usual" (spicy basil noodles) and walked around the South Side. After basking in the sun for awhile we saw Maleficent which I thought was really cute...Sleeping Beauty was always one of my favorite Disney film's growing up. After the movies we made our way to see our friends at Stage AE, they gave us tickets to see The Head and The Heart and Luscious concert! To top it all off we went out for drinks later in the night at a trendy bar in East Liberty called Livermore where we drank bourbon, daiquiris, and made Lin blow out her birthday candle.

Saturday we went roller skating and a bar near my house that has "down and derby" nights. There's neon tape everywhere, a DJ (I'm talking remixes of "Heard It Through The Grapevine" and "No Diggity"--so good!!), and alcohol. the best of everything. It was terrifying to skate at first by by the end of the night I was able to skate while dancing and skate backwards and only fell once hahaha.

There's really nothing better than reuniting with your best friend, picking up exactly where you left off, and making new memories by sharing new experiences together.

Thanks for checking in!

Maddie

Spring Scalloped Shorts

Happy Tuesday!

A month ago I was contacted by Front Row Shop to do a collaboration. Front Row Shop is a global online fashion website affiliated with Shanghai Front Row e-Commerce Co., Ltd. The company has over 10 years of experience in fabric merchandising and clothes manufacturing. Their clothing is incredibly chic and structured and a lot of their pieces have really interesting/fun patterns. I couldn't resist these shorts with scallop hem. They're unlike anything I've ever worn before. These beauties are high-wasited and made of soft poly fabric. I love how versatile these shorts are....they can be flirty/girly paired with something like this lace top or you can make the look edgier by swapping the lace for black chiffon shirt or bustier top. I can't wait to wear these from spring into summer. The scallop hem and soft pink color reminds me of tulips which I think makes it the perfect piece for this beautiful warm weather, am I right?

I know I shouldn't wish away days...but Friday I am leaving for Florida!! I'm extremely thrilled to spend a week at the beach and to catch up with my family members. Can it please be the weekend now?? Oh and when I come back from my Florida trip I will have only one more month here in Pittsburgh and then I'm moving out to Long Beach, CA in July (!!!) I'm going to miss my family and friends more than anything else in the world, but sometimes it's good to dive in headfirst and have a new adventure. Do you have any exciting vacation/moving plans this summer?

Also if you haven't already noticed some design changes on the blog...I have a new logo! Thanks to Daniel Gurwin for designing this beautiful handlettering logotype for Feeling Magenta. What do you guys think? I looooove it!!! Take a look at Daniel's portfolio and sketchbook on his website.

Thanks for checking in! And thank you Remington Brooks and The Indigo Project for the beautiful photography in this post!! It's always a pleasure to work with your best friend.

Maddie

Floppy Hat Fever

So today is officially the first day of Spring, although it's grey and dreary as can be in Pittsburgh. However, the last couple days have been so temperate and reassuring that the worst is over. I love this time of year because it feels like a new start: the days are longer, flowering plants bloom, icy rivers begin to melt and streams start to swell with the excess water. I also feel more productive and inspired during Spring. I'm looking forward to everything Spring has to offer this next few months and I'm working towards a big change that will happen in the Summer!

These photos were taken last week when it was GORGEOUS outside...I'm talking so sunny that I barely even needed this cardigan. The photographs were taken by my dearest friend Remington Brooks of The Indigo Project. He's also a brilliant designer and actually did the design work for the StockingNoir lookbook in my Lunar Gala Fashion Show Post. I met Remington my freshman year of college when we were both photography majors (right before I changed my major, oops) and we've been amazing friends ever since. As you can see, he's incredibly talented. I had the so much fun posing for him and he knew exactly how to capture what I wanted from this look!

I've been obsessing over this floppy hat lately. I bought it at a cute boutique near my house called Pavement. Anytime there's sunshine I just feel like building an outfit around this gorgeous hat. My hair is also always terrible so throwing a hat over it makes me feel so much better. I bought these beautiful patterned silky pants last summer from Forever 21 and I'm so happy the weather is finally warming up and I can bust them out! The sheer white tank is also from Forever 21 and the cardigan is BCBG that I discovered at a local thrift store. My rings (and heels) are a part of the secondhand collection that I got from my good friend. I got this funky triangular necklace from Burlington Coat Factory. Sometimes the triangles just want to do their own thing...as you can see haha.

Enjoy the first day of Spring! I hope it's warm and sunny wherever you are!

It's Beret Cold Outside

Hello Lovelies!

How is everyone's week so far? It's been snowy and slushy all week but life has still been exciting! I picked this BCBGeneration cardigan up at a consignment store in Pittsburgh called Avalon Exchange. It's one of my favorite thrift stores here and I always manage to find incredible items! The cardigan is sooooo warm and I love that it's long and it'll keep me warm when I decide to throw it over a dress. I bought the boots at Avalon as well. They're not very practical for these snowy frigid days but that hasn't stopped me haha. Besides, these babies are going to be perfect for Spring! I love that they don't have a tongue and lace up. The brand on the inside of the boot says Petra. Oh and the beret is to keep me warm but I also love how it goes with my striped turtleneck dress..I think it gives the whole look a Parisian vibe, oui?

A lot of amazing brands and events have reached out to me this past week so stay tuned for some super fun things I'll be posting soon!

Thanks for checking in!

Wild Horses

Hey there!!

Happy weekend to all of you!! It's a beautiful weekend so far, meaning the sun is shining and I have fun plans for tonight!

Since the weather was more mild this afternoon I decided to throw this outfit together. I'm not sure why but I usually tend to gravitate towards earth tones when I shop for clothes. I love wearing greens and browns, I guess it's because I feel like those colors always compliment my hair and the color of my eyes. Do my fellow redheads agree?

I love this outfit mostly because of my jacket! I love the fabric, colors, and the horses that run across it! I bought this jacket a few years ago at a Goodwill. I'm noticing that I tend to get most of my jackets from secondhand stores. My shirt is from Gap and the skirt is Forever 21. This skirt is perfect because it's neutral, basic, and comfortable...it goes with nearly everything! I threw on my thigh high burnt orange colored socks and these tan Hunter rain boots.

I'm starting to appreciate clutches more and more and I rediscovered this Dooney and Bourke Clutch I bought at a Goodwill in Arizona a few years ago. The mother of pearl ring was my Grandma's and the midi ring is from Urban Outfitters. My necklace was a very thoughtful Christmas gift from my boss. I work at an English school for international students. Before the holidays rolled around my boss asked me what country I would love to visit and I told her Iceland (I mean who wouldn't want to go to Iceland?? There's Bjork, Sigur Ros, volcanoes, hot springs, etc!). Consequently, the necklace is a silver chain with an Icelandic coin. And aren't my nails amazing?! My dear friend Jade is so incredibly kind. She usually comes over once a week to hangout and paint nails and I always look forward to it.

I'm going to an event called Second Saturdays in Pittsburgh tonight to watch some improv performances, hangout with friends and drink wine!

Thank you so much for checking in! Enjoy the rest of the weekend and keep warm!
